Do Alcoholics Stand a Chance to Quit?
Many people seeking for alcoholic help try hard to stay sober after the treatment, but they often fall back into their bad habit of drinking. This is very annoying both for themselves and for their families, as everybody is investing time, hopes and energy in seeing them healed. I think the most important factor immediately after the treatment is the environment. If the friends of a former alcoholic will try to push him into drinking again, even if it’s only social drinking, they are doing wrong. Alcoholics do not function like the rest of us. For them, even the smallest drop of alcohol can be a giant leap backwards into their addiction. They have to stay sober for the rest of their life, because they cannot stop after only one drink.
My answer is that yes, alcoholics have a chance to become healthy again, but they need all the help they can get from their friends and family.
